Faux Wood Blinds Cleaning & Maintenance
Faux wood blinds are made of a combination of wood and vinyl.
They have the appearance of real wood. Like other types of blinds,
they get dusty over time, needing cleaning occasionally. You
will need some basic cleaning materials and some cleaning cloths.
Equipment needed :-
Feather duster or dry cloth, vacuum cleaner, mild detergent,
- 1 Remove dust from the blinds. Get rid
of dust by running a feather duster or dry washcloth over
each slat. Turn the faux wood blinds in each direction and
dust both sides. Use a portable vacuum or standard vacuum
with attachments to get rid of dust on the blinds.
- 2 Create a cleaning solution. Mix mild
detergent with warm water in a bucket. Soak a soft cleaning
cloth in the solution, and wring it out until it is damp.
- 3 Clean each faux wood blind slat with the damp
cloth. Wipe both the front and back of each slat.
Clean the cords the same way.
- 4 Rinse the blinds with clean water. Fill
a bucket with fresh water.Dip your washcloth in it, or keep
a damp rag with you to rinse the slats as you clean them.
- 5 Dry the blinds. Wipe each slat with a
soft, dry cloth. Drying faux wood blinds with a dry cloth
is effective, but it takes longer than other methods of drying.
Put a portable fan in front of the faux wood blinds to dry
them quickly, or turn on a nearby ceiling fan. Open a window
on a breezy day to dry the blinds naturally.
- 6 Remove tough stains. Spot clean the faux
wood blinds to eliminate stubborn stains. If the blemish does
not go away when you initially wipe all the blinds down, blot
the stain with a washcloth dipped in soap and warm water.
Continue blotting until the stain disappears. Soak the faux
wood blinds in warm water. If the blinds are caked with layers
of dirt and dust, fill a bathtub with warm water and soak
the blinds in it for about an hour.
Clean the blinds regularly. Dusting at least once a month can
keep the dust and dirt from building up on the slats of the
blinds. Protect your floor from water or cleaning solution by
placing a tarp or sheet on it prior to cleaning the blinds.
Apply the cleaning solution to an inconspicuous area of the
blinds before using it to clean the entire surface of the blinds.
You can avoid damaging the blinds with a product that is too
harsh by testing it out this way. Do not use bleach or abrasive
